    In the 1990s, staff from Kaldi’s Coffee started visiting their neighbors in the Schlafly Beer Tap Room, asking for a pint of stout and a shot of espresso. Both Schlafly and Kaldi’s realized this was a match made in beer heaven, and soon started working together to find the perfect coffee blend to mix with their Oatmeal Stout. Schlafly’s Oatmeal Stout is a classic English-style stout brewed with flaked oatmeal and roasted barley.     Kaldi’s Coffee // Sumatra Tano Batak

    This is the 3rd year we have brought in coffee from this cooperative in Sumatra. Sumatran coffees are known for their heavy, unique flavors. The best coffees from Sumatra are processed in their traditional style, called wet hulled. Wet hulling is when the coffee is picked at peak ripeness and depulped, removing the fruit from the bean, leaving in parchment. The wet parchment “Gabah” is dried for about 1 day to about 30% moisture then wet hulled and dried under greenhouse solar dryers.
